I followed the guide fine until I got to the wifi part. I saw something about how my username when I set it up should've been my car's ID on the site. I panicked and closed the wizard. Now I can't figure out how to restart the wizard.
I figured I'd configure it myself step by step and hopefully it would work, even though I had no clue what I was doing. Couldn't get it to recognize my wifi network. Honestly don't even know how to check if it can see it. I just kept rebooting it and checking if I can update the firmware.
Eventually, I gave up and set up the SIM card. It seems to maybe have worked? On the hologram page its status is "Connected".
I jump around the menus for configuration and see the AP/client and for some reason I set it to "Client" not "AP + Client". Now I can't even connect to it.
I tried using a FAT32-formatted micro SD card (from my Nintendo Switch) to factory reset it and install the update. I put a text file called "factoryreset.txt" in and the ovms3.bin file in the root folder. I'm guessing it doesn't just automatically do it when I put the card in because nothing happened when I plugged the USB into my PC to give it power and put the card in for about 10 minutes. (And yes, I pushed the card all the way in. Had to use a butter knife to actually get it to go in.)
I don't know where to go from here. I can't connect to the IP address because it doesn't do AP anymore. The FAT32 formatted card I used didn't work and I have zero idea how to format the other card I have because my laptop won't even recognize it.
There's an issue with flashing from SD card in the previous release, as the firmware has grown too large. Also, doing a factory reset and a firmware update at the same time is certainly untested and may well fail. Do only the factory reset.
Remove the "ovms3.bin" file from your SD card, keep the "factoryreset.txt" and try again.
Thank you! It reset!
I went through the setup wizard a second time with a better idea of what I was doing. Looks like it worked. I have a feeling the rest will be tweaking it to fit my 2015 Nissan Leaf S. I changed the setting for it to be 2015 and allow CAN writes but I probably need to pick the right Pin for EV system activation request? Maybe not. It's set to default right now. I tried running A/C and it worked. Tried locking the doors and it made a sound like it attempted but the doors didn't lock. Not sure where the heat setting is so I didn't try that one.
Glad it's working at least. Thanks again!
Beware of the fact that you may need to remove (or at least disconnect) the TCU in your Leaf before some things (like pre-heat/cool) will work; if that "blows your mind", then don't worry about it. Sounds like your modem (SIM card) is working. As long as you can see SoC levels on the first (app) screen and temps on the second (car) screen, then you are getting most of the benefits.
Thankfully, I don't think the 2015 Leaf S has a TCU. (Though I sure would love having GPS and the like. Maybe I'll swap in a Sony screen at some point, unless I upgrade to a different car.) If it does, I'll look into where it might be and disconnect it. Thanks.
I actually have zero idea where the heating option is for climate control on the app. I click A/C button and it says "climate control" and has A/C on/off but I don't see one for heat. A/C seemed to work, though.
You are correct: the "S" trim did not have telematics (TCU).
I use the command line to activate climate control instead of the "car" tab (the iOS app doesn't have the same hooks/graphics as the Android version for some reason); there is no distinction between cool/heat (the car determines that based on internal/external temperatures). That command is climatecontrol ON | OFF
OH! That makes so much sense! Thank you so much. So does it also base it off the last temperature you set in the climate control before you turned the car off (to use as an "ideal" temp) or just use the two temperature readings?
