Hi all, Got a 4G 3.3 kit on it's way over to me and I'm looking for feedback on possible install locations?
I was thinking of strapping the OVMS unit to the TCU somehow, but I'm not sure where to run the GPS antenna to for a decent signal?
Does anyone have any feedback or alternative locations?
I installed it behind the panel under the glove box. Pop off the panel under the glove box then fish the cable behind the center pillar that has tthe touchscreen etc between the two foot wells. Then put the panel back on with the unit ticked behind it. I never used the GPS antenna but the 4g antenna works fine just stuffed I there with the unit. Be careful to strap down the cable as needed and run it behind panels where possible in the driverside foot well. That is not a good spot to have loose cable.
Sorry, forgot to mention - UK based, so RHD.
TCU is already in the drivers footwell, next to the OBD port - so already trying to work out how to keep cables out the way.
No matter which side the driver is on, the ODB-II cable length will be the limiting factor.
I velcroed mine up under the driver's side footwell; there's a flat plastic surface to the side of the brake. Warning: use really good (sticky back) velcro or it won't stay there!
LHD 2015 Leaf here in Canada! I zip tied my module to the TCU then ran the two antennas up through a small cover I was able to pop off on the right just under the windshield. I made a cutout in the cover for the two cables and used black automotive silicone to secure them to the top of the dash - looks ok and always get great reception! The OBD cable I was able to thread under the dash over to the drivers side but I keep it all hidden with a OBD 3 way splitter I found on EBay so my LeafSpy dongle and the OVMS are always connected and the OBD connection below the steering wheel is still free (the OBD 3 way splitter clips into the original location of the factory OBD bracket...)
Hello - from Vancouver! - I have put the module behind the Radio/Navigator Unit (replaced with an Atoto so, there is space) - and carved a bit of a hole to get the OBD2, GPS and GSM antenna wires go through. Carved a bit of space where the cover of the radio/AC vents joins to dash near the on/off button. The cables run tight across the knee space (right under the on/off button) and go up the left side to reach to top of the windshiel. - Question for LinseyP : Where exactly is the "Original location of the factory OBD bracket?" -
The OBD bracket is what holds the cars OBD connector (where you plug the TCU in). I was able to find a 3 way splitter with one connector that matched the leaf OBD connector, I pulled out the original connector and hooked it up to the new splitter, then put the splitter connector into the original bracket (beside the steering column about knee level...). I use the last connector from the splitter for my OBD dongle that connects to LeafSpy. This leave the OBD cdonnector free for the annual battery check by the factory techs... (Did that all make sense??).

In my RHD 2014 leaf I ran the GPS along the door seal to the roof cavity, as shown in this video: https://youtu.be/CsycSBPlqS4 (jump to 6:38).
Thanks guys. OVMS was just delivered today but I'm still waiting on the GPS antenna. For now, I've just stored the OVMS unit behind the kick panel near the TCU. Everything looks like it's running now.
I quite like the idea of running the GPS antenna upto the top of the B-pillar. I guess the coverage is reliable?
And just to find a 2-way OBD splitter that does thread into the existing bracket.
