Hi everyone!
The moment you've been waiting for is finally here - the (soon to be official?) OVMS Home Assistant integration through HACS!
Many of you have been requesting this for ages, and it was one of the first things I checked when I became a new OVMS owner. Sure, you could always set up your own configuration.yaml manually, but why do that tedious work when we have technology to automate things for us?
As a passionate advocate for both self-hosting and open source software, I'm absolutely thrilled to present: OVMS Home Assistant! It's hosted on GitHub, and I'm just waiting for HACS to approve it in their store.
The integration is working beautifully, and I would greatly appreciate a wider user base so we can add support for more vehicles. While every car, topic, and message is automatically parsed and supported at a basic level, there are some vehicle-specific metrics that need attention. For example, my VW e-UP! has certain metrics that are unique to the model. These are correctly parsed but without matching the metrics to specific sensors, they are not properly named since they're missing in the metrics library.
With more cars and users, we can ensure all topics are not just parsed but named correctly! Please test the integration, report any bugs you find, and create GitHub issues for feature requests. While I'm not super active on this forum, I check GitHub daily.
Have fun with it, and I hope you like it as much as I do!

Thanks for this!
I'm new to OVMS and only slightly less new to HA. I have both working, though.
Am I correct to infer that I should only follow your instructions, and not those for any previous attempts to connect OVMS to HA that I see here posted in '22-'24?
Correct. This integration does everything for you as long as the preconditions are met, so no need to follow any other instructions. :)
